Update 20.9.20

A big hello to all our members. The committee held a socially distanced meeting earlier this week and we just wanted to keep members up to date in what we are thinking and planning for the weeks and months ahead.

With Government guidelines changing frequently, again I can only speak with this weeks guidance in mind. Everyone will be aware that all our planning will have to be rethought if the guidance changes again next week.

So here goes.

Outdoor bowling – The green will be open (weather permitting) until end of play on Sat 3rd October. So please make use of this facility in your groups and continue to book a rink with Maureen.

Work party - Bob has arranged a work party on Sunday 4th October to try and complete all the small maintenance jobs outstanding and the usual tasks of putting all the equipment away. If anyone can spare an hour or so to help from 10.00 am this would be most appreciated.

Short-mat Bowls. As the guidance stands currently, the rule of 6 does not apply to organised sport, so we plan to run the Short-mat bowls starting on Friday 9th October 2-4 pm. A full risk assessment will be carried out to ensure the guidance is fully implemented, but as for the outdoor bowls, this is mostly common sense. To ensure social distancing can be maintained the numbers will be capped to 16 per session, therefore as for outdoors please call Joy Williams to book your place. A big thanks in advance to Flo, Charlie, Bob and Joy, who are working hard to ensure this goes ahead smoothly.

Social evenings. For a trial period, the Club is changing the social evening to 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month starting on Saturday 10th October, 7.30 – 10.30 pm. This is for members and social members during October – December. Opening after Christmas will be dependant on numbers/ demand. To encourage more people to come, the committee have planned to host activities on these evenings including music quiz, a regular ‘Play your cards right’ session, Card bingo, darts competitions to name a few. We will post the programme at the club nearer the time. Please, if you feel able to, come and support your club during the Winter.

Sue still has 2 events planned for 2021, but it is uncertain if they will go ahead as numbers within the club are currently limited to 30 people. More details later.

AGM. - Guidance does not allow the Club to host an AGM this year, I am therefore grateful for the current committee members who have agreed to continue in position until an AGM can be called. There remains a vacant position of Press Officer, if anyone is interested in taking this up please let one of the committee members know.

Membership Fees. The Club needs your support. We have had a to pay the full amount of expenses during the summer regarding green maintenance and cutting, with very little income. A letter will be going out to all members in the next week setting out the position and asking for your support, but please if you have any fundraising suggestions or wish to discuss your membership please call Maureen.

My thanks go to the Committee who have worked hard during the Summer to keep things running in difficult circumstances. Looking forward, we have secured a grant of £1000 to improve disabled/ wheelchair access to the green, and will hopefully have that work complete by the beginning of the 2021 season.

Paul has already booked a full calendar of outdoor fixtures for 2021, and we will also be hosting the Middleton Cup and League Cup games for the County teams and the County under 25s home games.

So 2021 looks to be shaping up for a great season if we can only get past this Virus.

Keep safe everyone, and hope to see you at the club in the near future.

Maureen and the Committee.
