Dear all, I hope this finds you well and surviving the current lockdown. Its good to be able to impart some favourable news for a change. This is the statement released by Bowls England yesterday:

BOWLS ENGLAND LOOKS FORWARD TO THE START OF THE 2021 OUTDOOR SEASON

Today’s roadmap for the easing of lockdown restrictions enables Bowls England, counties and affiliated clubs to prepare with confidence for the 2021 outdoor season. The Prime Minister’s announcement confirmed that outdoor affiliated bowls clubs will be able to open from 29 March. (therefore we should be able to open the green as planned at the end of April)

Whilst mindful to retain a level of caution, we are very excited about the outdoor bowls season beginning soon. Our overriding objective is for as many bowlers as possible to enjoy our sport in a safe manner this summer. Bowls is a naturally socially-distanced, non-contact activity and plays a key role in the mental and physical health of many across the country. The positive prospects for the new season provides a great boost to bowlers and the sport in general

The Committee appreciate that whilst the overwhelming majority of existing bowlers are eager to start playing and are likely to have received their first vaccine, we understand there may be a degree of nervousness about returning to the sport. We will therefore be following developments and instruction from Bowls England closely and put in place all suggested measures to ensure that play is as safe as possible. From first reading of the roadmap it looks like we will be able to play matches again, but these will probably have to be played as Triples initially. The Clubhouse may not be able to be open initially but if all goes well should be open in May.

YOUR CLUB NEEDS YOU!

Retention of existing bowlers and recruitment of new bowlers will be a priority for the club going forward. With that in mind we will be planning, if safe, to take part in the Bowls England National Open Weekend 28-31st May 2021. This is a good opportunity to encourage people, who are looking for a new fun, family outdoor activity, into our sport. We will be looking for support from you all to make this campaign a success.

The committee will of course keep you updated on developments as they occur, and will be happy to answer any questions you might have about the forthcoming season.
