As Government restrictions do not allow for a pre-season meeting this year, please note below most of the information that would have been discussed.

Hi All, as the sun is shining and the Covid restrictions are perhaps beginning to ease, I hope your thoughts are turning towards getting back to playing some bowls in the not too distant future.

The good news is that the future of Kidlington Bowls Club is secure.  The Council has completed the Option appraisal on the Exeter Close site and informed the Committee in Dec 2020 that the Bowls club will not be part of any future development of the site.  We are awaiting the Council to contact us about signing of the new 15 year lease, hopefully once they are back to full working again.

As usual we have been keeping a close watch on the Bowls England advice, which is that Lawn bowls as an organised outdoor sport can resume from Monday 29th March. That means we have been able to plan to start the season as per usual, within the guidance of Social distancing and current Covid regulations.

Key Dates for your diary.

Sun 18.4.21

09.00am onwards

Work party

Help required to get the Green surrounds ready for the resumption of play. Work will be carried out in Socially distanced small groups.

Monday 19th April

10.00 am.

Green opens.

Booking of a rink is essential for contact tracing.  Please contact Maureen to book with names of your group.  Roll ups do not come under the regulation of organised sport so groups will be restricted to 6 persons per rink only. If you would like to join a group rather than bowl on your own, let me know.

Please come ready to play. In the first couple of weeks there will be no toilet facilities open.

Weds 21.4.21 and every Weds thereafter.

10.00 - 12.00 noon

Volunteer groups

There is always something to do around the Club. A small group have worked hard over the Winter to complete some larger projects, but we need more support to do the small jobs both inside and outside the Club. Bob has agreed to co ordinate this, please turn up on a Weds morning to see if you can help out. This is also an opportunity for a chat over a cup of Tea /Coffee.

Sat 24th April

First fixture - Long Crendon  at Home

We need your support. Until regulations change (? 17th May) fixtures will be restricted to 12 players from each team. Please come ready to play, toilets will be open and drinks can be served outside, but there will be no food after the game. Team sheets will go up in the clubhouse in the next week. Please don’t assume there will be enough names put up to fulfil the fixture without you.

Wed 28th April

Ladie’s League resumes

2 wood triples.

Sheets will be put up in the Club entrance

Thurs 20th May

Men’s League resumes

3 rinks and 1 triple

Capt : J. Feeley. Sheets will be put up in the Club entrance.

Add your name asap.

Club Internal Competitions

Names for the Club Competitions please. We plan to run singles and pairs initially, but hope to run triples and perhaps 4’s as the season and regulations allow.

Sunday 6th June

Club Open Day

Recruitment of new players is going to be key for the success of the Club going forward. Your help and support for this day is essential. More details to follow.

As you can imagine there is lots of speculation as to how the season will be able to progress depending on how the Governments roadmap for the easing of lockdown regulations plays out.

The Committee agree with Bowls Oxfordshire in that we feel we need to be very proactive, and that it would be easy to cancel fixtures and wait and see what happens, but if we do that it will be harder to get things running again, with even less bowlers and people willing to take roles within the Club.

Therefore the take home message is your club needs YOU.

Looking forward to seeing all of you on the Green in the near future.
